New Year's Resolutions 2012? You Bet!

Like I said at this time last year, I really buy into goal setting. So it's time to set my new year's resolutions for 2012. If you actually are so bored that you care to read them, then please continue....

Jay's 2012 New Year's Resolutions

Lose 15 Pounds
I met my 2011 resolution to lose 30 pounds. I've lost a lot of weight, and I thought that 30 would be enough, but it's not. I can see that I still have about 15 more to go. It's time to ramp up the already frequent exercise program by increasing the intensity and mixing up routines. 2011 was a good year for me health-wise, but 2012 is going to be the year where it all comes together. More intense workouts, even better eating and less alcohol are all going to help me get to where I want to be. I can't just have my clothes look nice. I owe it to my wife to look good out of them as well.

Be 17% Less Nice
This is a continuation of the unmet goal from 2011 to be 34% less nice. I only got half way there in my own estimation. I really need to make people earn my kindness more than I have. I will still continue to treat those whom I favour very well, but I'm not opening the door quite so easily this year. I like being good to people, but I matter too. And since I am an exceptional person, I deserve to be treated well. 2012 will see me be much more choosy with respect to who I favour with my kindness. This is for bloody good reason.

Buy a Really Big TV
Why have a 42" TV in your basement when you can have a 55" TV in your basement and a 42" TV in your living room? Makes perfect sense to me. My wife and I really love movies, and I really love video games and football. I don't get these years back so I'm going to enjoy them.

Manage My Time Better
When I get back from my Mexican slothiday in January, I still have some classes to take into March. One of them is a course on time and stress management. I'm hoping that this will be useful and add to my skill set. I need to do better at managing the time I allocate towards socializing versus time at home. The pendulum has swung back towards the home side during the last portion of this year. But I still have friends I want to spend time with. One thing I have to admit is that I haven't spent enough time with some of my long-term friends that I've had for years. That needs to be corrected. I also have made some great friends in recent years that I enjoy being with. One thing I learned in 2011 is who my real friends are. And my wife needs to remain my #1 priority in life. This will require some balance.

Finish My Old Age Planning
I have retirement savings. Two different investment portfolios, actually. But I'd like to add a third this year. I'm not leaving my future lifestyle to chance. I also need to tie off a lingering legal issue: I don't have a will. That has to change.

And just for those of you keeping score, I reached 4/5 of my resolutions for 2011.
Lose 30 Pounds: Goal Met!
Be 34% Less Nice: Goal Not Met.
Stand Up Straight: Goal Met!
Plan My Getaways Better: Goal Met!
Dress Better: Goal Met!

I'm going for 5/5 in 2012!

I hope that all of you have a great 2012. I know that I will. Thanks for visiting The World According to Jay!

But that's just the way I see it.
